Goals, Goals, Goals and No It’s Not Soccer!

Do you like to set goals?

What are yours?

I am a weirdo, I LOVE to set goals and work on them! If I don’t set goals regularly, I tend to feel a bit lost!

I like to set personal goals, fitness and health goals as well as business goals! I tend to do better with fitness and business goals than I do personal and health goals! You’d think that it would all be the same!

Why You Should Set Goals-

Did you know that 92% of people who set New Years Goals have blown it by January 15th? That’s Nuts!

Setting goals not only can help you achieve dreams but help you further your career, health, fitness, spiritual growth as well as most every part of your life!

Setting goals helps you to have a long term vision and some short term motivation to achieve those goals!

It can help you organize your time and resources. It also helps you measure your success and progress! I personally think it helps you to have more self confidence as you check off those goals!

It’s like having a road map for your life. Without it how do you know where you are going?

How To Set Goals-

There are some ways to improve your chances of achieving your goals!

First, start thinking about goals that are the “Big Picture” goals. This is an idea of what you want to do with your life(say in maybe the next 5-10 years!). It could also just be any big goal as well(like I want to lose 25-50 pounds).

Next, you will want to break these goals into smaller and smaller achievable goals. One of my favorite phrases is “you can’t eat an elephant in one bite” meaning tackle your problem or “Big” goals one bit at a time! You may want to make out a to do list of projects as they need done.

Lastly, you can give those smaller goals a time line, a date to have certain projects or items on your list done!

If you will write down your goals you give yourself a 50% greater chance of achieving them. It is also a good idea to share your goals with someone close to you.(It makes it “real” then and they can ask you about them as well). Another great idea is making sure you carrying them with you at all times(like on the lock screen or wall paper on your phone or computer! Or write them down and post them in your work area, refrigerator or bathroom mirror!) .

S.M.A.R.T. Goals

One of the best outlines for setting up goals is the S.M.A.R.T. Acronym. It helps you to whittle down ideas and get very focused on what you want to achieve!

S.M.A.R.T.

  • Specific (simple, sensible, significant).
  • Measurable (meaningful, motivating).
  • Achievable (agreed, attainable).
  • Relevant (reasonable, realistic and resourced, results-based).
  • Time bound (time-based, time limited, time/cost limited, timely, time-sensitive).

When to Set Goals-

Should you set goals only at New Years?

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!

Start ASAP!

I have heard it said that July 1st is time to renew or review your New Years goals. I also recently read an article about the “Second New Year” or September 1st. Its around the time when the kiddos go back to school and we feel the final stretch of the year!

But really anytime you come up with an idea or dream that will take some doing- its time to set a goal!

Goals, Goals, Glorious Goals!


So, I am going to go out on a limb here and tell you a few of my goals!

Usually we are a nosey sort and like to know what others are working on! 

So some of my current goals are personal, fitness related health related and business related!

Some of my personal goals are to get into my Bible and do my Bible study most every day of the week. Also to cook more meals than to eat out!

One of my big fitness goals which also is kind of a health related goal is to work on my metabolism. I’ve been doing a lot of research and studying metabolic damage. I definitely feel like I suffer from this after years of chronic dieting and under eating with over exercisIng! I’ll do a post on this later!!

One of my big business related goals is, I would eventually love to have a place on our property to train clients! That has been a long time dream of mine! Not, that I don’t like training where I do, but it would be nice to have something that is more personal! Another big goal I have is I would love to have more clients! I love getting to know people on a one on one level! I also just love helping people
